The Future Drought Fund Communities Program has been extended for another four years, with $36 million in new support from the Government.
Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters today visited Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR), who will help co-deliver programs to enable people in agriculture-dependent communities to build and maintain their social resilience to drought.
The program aims to improve social outcomes, build leadership, fund community projects and help communities find better ways to work together.
Previously, local organisations DJAARA and LEAD Loddon Mallee have received funding to establish drought resilience and preparedness projects such as the Djaara Forest Gardening Engagement Coordinator pilot program “Healing Country on Djandak”, and the 2024 Loddon Murray Community Leadership Program.
The Albanese Labor Government will also be providing an additional $2.8 million to the Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS), giving farmers and small related businesses access to more free and independent financial counselling support. This includes $800,000 committed directly to the South Australian and Victorian RFCS providers, with the remaining $2 million to be distributed to high-demand areas.
These commitments build on the Albanese Labor Government’s $1 billion rural support and drought resilience package which has helped farmers to prepare, adapt and respond to drought.
